Have you ever wondered why our products that don’t naturally contain gluten, sesame or nuts have a warning on the packet? If so, here is some help understanding our allergen information.

Why do we use these warnings when the products don’t naturally contain allergens? Although all products we supply have undergone microbiological, chemical and pesticide testing our policy is to only declare a product free from an allergen if it has been specifically tested for that allergen.
Our warnings are there ‘just in case’ of cross contamination. Our allergen containing products are always processed separately in different production schedules and all the equipment used goes through thorough cleaning, so we keep the chance of cross-contamination as low as possible.
Our warehouse contains a huge range of products, 95% of which are naturally allergen free. Some people who have a mild intolerance to gluten don’t mind if their mung beans have been packed in the same room (on a different production schedule) as gluten containing products. However coeliacs or those with a peanut/sesame allergy need to be really careful, which is why we have to be extra cautious when labelling to protect these individuals.
If you want to know if a product packed in our warehouse is naturally gluten free (the product itself does not naturally contain gluten) then look for the icon under the product image on our online shop (NGCI).
The good news for those who can’t take the risk with gluten is that we are slowly building a range of certified gluten free products which are tested using the ELISA technique and then certified gluten free. These products are described as ‘gluten free’ in the title.
